Getting ITB Therapy

The Medtronic SynchroMed® pump is a programmable device that delivers powerful medication around the clock, directly where it can have the biggest impact on your severe spasticity. There are many ways a test-dose is performed unique to the ITB centre and may include repeated single injections through a needle directly into the intrathecal space or the surgical implant of a catheter through which injections can be made.

Is It Right for You?

Your doctor will consider many factors including your symptoms, goals, body mass, and results of a screening test. Once a positive effect is seen on the spasticity a thorough discussion between the patient, parent and medical team will determine whether ITB Therapy is the right option to proceed to pump implantation.

Insurance Coverage

ITB TherapySM is a CE-marked, commercially available treatment. It's covered for the approved indications throughout Europe. Please check with your physician to learn more if the pump and medication are covered for you.

Surgery: What to Expect

On average, the surgery to implant ITB Therapy takes about 1 to 2 hours from start to finish. Your doctor can answer any questions you may have about the procedure.
